A protest and encampment on the Auraria Campus’ Tivoli Quad started on April 25. It involved students and others who are not affiliated with our campus, including protesters who are part of a national, coordinated pro-Palestinian movement that has made its way onto college campuses nationwide.
Beginning the weekend of May 18, the demonstrators disassembled and abandoned the encampment on the Tivoli Quad, and AHEC has begun cleaning and repairing areas of campus that were damaged by the demonstrations
Yes. MSU Denver strongly supports freedom of expression and our community members’ right to peacefully protest.
No. A longstanding Auraria Campus policy prohibits camping on campus due to health and safety risks they pose. As encampments grow in an uncontrolled manner, those risks grow for everyone on campus, including the campers. It is difficult to control the size of encampments, and the Auraria Campus does not have public facilities available 24-7.
