The primary mission of the Exploring Economic Freedom Project is to provide a forum where interdisciplinary discussions take place on issues broadly discussed in academic, intellectual, and public policy circles. Its objective is to enhance the educational experience of our students and to educate the general public about the role of economic and political freedom in promoting entrepreneurship, economic growth, prosperity and peace.
The program is hosted at Metropolitan State University of Denver and organized by project director Dr. Alexandre Padilla. He has published several academic on insider trading in the Quarterly Journal of Austrian Economics, Commentaries in Law & Economics, Florida State Business Review, Journal of Law, Economics, and Policy, other non-academic essays. His current research looks at the effects of immigration on institutions. His most recent article published in Public Choice examines the impact of immigration in the United States on the economic institutions that contributed to US economic growth and prosperity.
The Exploring Economic Freedom Project is generously funded by the Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation. The Exploring Economic Freedom Project sponsors the Exploring Economic Freedom Lecture Series where eminent scholars are invited to talk about topics related to economic and political freedom. It also sponsors and co-sponsors reading colloquia where students are invited to discuss readings around a topic related to economic and political freedom from an inter-disciplinary perspective whether it be immigration, social change, populism, poverty, income inequality, etc.
The Director of the Exploring Economic Freedom Project is Dr. Alexandre Padilla (website: www.alexandrepadilla.com). Dr. Alexandre Padilla is an Associate Professor of Economics. He earned his B.S., M.A., and Doctorate in Economics from the University Paul Cézanne Aix-Marseille III in France. Dr. Alexandre Padilla joined the Economics faculty in 2002 first as a visiting instructor and then as tenure-track faculty in 2004. Dr. Padilla was awarded tenure and promotion in Spring 2010.
