GITA Trainings

This training uses the 4 I’s of Oppression framework to give your team members a foundational understanding of the production of systems of oppression (e.g., racism, sexism, homophobia, ableism, etc.).  The training engages with how these systems are maintained at the key level of our ideas, within social institutions, in interpersonal relationships and in our own selves. Participants are asked to reflect on their own ideas, relationships and patterns of mind and how these connect to larger social narratives, which perpetuate or dismantle inequities. Engaging with the 4 I’s of Oppression helps us recognize the workings of oppression and gives us the space to engage with the world with a fresh perspective.

This workshop introduces participants to mindfulness and basic lay meditation techniques, in order to engage with power, systemic oppression and change from moment-to-moment for a sustainable and holistic approach to social justice leadership, teaching and activism. Trainees will learn to lead difficult conversations and/or engage in activism from an embodied perspective, aware of views and feelings, for a more grounded approach to engage with the most urgent issues of our times.  

What do we think of when we hear “professionalism?” This training asks participants to consider the origins of modern ideas of professionalism through an anti-imperialist lens. How can we move away from hierarchical thinking, individualism, and perfectionism and move toward inclusive workplaces that embrace conflict and nurture relationships with ourselves and each other? This training challenges attitudes and behaviors of white supremacy culture that often lead to burnout.

This training is an introduction to understanding the differences between gender, sex and sexuality and the lived experiences of the LGBTQIA+ community. Content includes exploring key concepts and terminology, scenarios for working with LGBTQ+ individuals, and a personal exploration of gender and sexuality for each participant.  

In this training participants will learn a brief history of anti-racist movements in the U.S., the difference between “not racist” and “anti-racist,” and will apply this understanding to their own work, lives and environment. This training can be adapted to the needs of your office or group. 

This training gives participants the language and tools to build healthy communication practices, name and address conflict with the Wheel of Disillusionment framework, and create a stronger and more trusting team. This training will help your team step confidently into conflict through learning about your similarities and differences, utilizing assertive communication skills, and engaging in healthy and compassionate conflict management. This training is best suited for offices/teams who work together regularly; full team participation is recommended.
