Representation
LFSA is a group for Latina/o/x faculty and staff at MSU Denver that works to create a sense of inclusion and belonging. It is our goal to provide equal representation and uplift our faculty and staff of Latin descent.
A Place To Be Heard
We believe in giving a voice to those who can make real change happen. Join our member community and take part in advocacy efforts.
Truly Connecting
The LFSA is one of the few organizations that promotes the interests of the Latin community at MSU Denver. With mentorship and professional development opportunities for faculty/staff, it is our goal to maintain and increase the number of Latina/o/x faculty, students, and staff in MSU Denver’s senior management.
Born and “semi” raised in Chihuahua, Mexico, Joanely was only five years old when she and her family moved to the United States and she’s lived in Colorado ever since. Going from a tight-knit family-oriented community in Chihuahua to a very isolated rural farm community in Colorado, the change was drastic– needless to say. She is lucky to have built a community with friends and loved ones, just as close as the one from her hometown, allowing her to say that Colorado is her home confidently! Earning her Bachelor of Science in Marketing from MSU Denver and currently working towards her Masters in Information Systems from the University of Colorado Denver; something that hasn’t and will never change is the fact that, wherever she goes, she will continue to represent her culture with a lot of love and pride.
Miguel Huerta is proud to be serving the Roadrunners of MSU Denver in the Social Work Department. As a Chicano who was born and raised in Denver, he is thrilled to be home after 6 years of working and living in Philadelphia. Miguel attained a Master’s of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania and holds a certificate in Trauma Informed Practices from Bryn Mawr School of Social Work. Miguel was the first college graduate in his family with a Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. In 2014, Miguel became a founding member of the Board of Directors for the Move Mountains Project in San Luis, Colorado. Miguel has served youth and young adults in a variety of settings including alternative education, non-profits, and grassroots community efforts.
